How to complain about a nursing home in Ireland

Long-term residential care is sometimes provided in nursing homes and sometimes in hospitals or community nursing units.

Public long stay care is provided in a number of different institutions including Health Service Executive (HSE) nursing homes, hospitals and community nursing units.

Private long stay care is provided by private nursing homes.

All nursing homes are now monitored by the independent Social Services Inspectorate within the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).

In this section you can find out how to make a complaint or raise a concern about a public nursing home or about a private or voluntary nursing home.
